About Karam Evi Derneği:

We are a Syrian-led organization founded in 2007. We have been supporting Syrian communities in Syria, Turkey, Jordan, and the US since 2011. We’ve developed various innovative education projects including community innovation centers (Karam House) for refugee teens in Turkey and a higher education scholarship program for refugee youth, as well as have sustainable development and smart aid projects to address the evolving obstacles that Syrians face. We are on a mission to grow 10,000 Leaders by 2028.

 

About Karam Studios:

Karam Studios is an innovative education program based in Reyhanli/Istanbul running an innovative curriculum co-developed with NuVu Studio in Boston, Massachusetts. Through the program, students participate in studios where they work on a variety of projects that help them acquire skills in the sciences, engineering, programming, fabrication, critical thinking, and teamwork. As a part of the process, students have to document their work through daily written and visual posts on the NuVu documentation platform (karam.nuvustudio.com) and receive critical feedback on writings associated with their work. Technical skills learned through studios include 3D printing, laser cutting, microelectronics, robotics, and coding.

 

JOB OVERVIEW:
Oversees the local management and operational aspects of the Karam Studios Program. This role involves streamlining managerial and logistical tasks, developing teaching schedules, processing budget requests, and tracking performance metrics. The successful candidate will ensure effective oversight of staff and students, focusing on administrative leadership, logistical coordination, and local engagement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operational Leadership:
  • Lead the development and implementation of logistical strategies to support program delivery.
  • Oversee scheduling, resource allocation, and facility maintenance.
  • Implement strategies for program expansion.

 

  1. Budget and Finance Management:
    • Lead the management of program budgets, including spending requests, oversight, and cost-effective resource use.
    • Process budget requests and track financial performance metrics.
  2. Team Support and Development:
    • Support the recruitment and onboarding of new team members.
    • Assist with the implementation of performance management systems
    • Foster a positive and innovative work environment.
  3. Student and Community Engagement:
    • Develop and implement strategies with the Membership Team for effective student engagement, retention, and satisfaction.
    • Act as the primary liaison with local communities, stakeholders, and partners to promote program visibility and support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Management, Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in program or project management, preferably in an educational, nonprofit setting, or design setting.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Cultural sensitivity and experience working in Turkiye and the refugee context.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Karam Evi is looking for a communication assistant to help spread Karam House’s message to the community and document our program activities, campaigns, and events. The communication assistant will also be creating and sharing content on different social media platforms and will be interacting with our community members to hear and collect stories about them and the impact of the programs on their lives.

We have built two Karam Houses, innovative workspaces for Syrian refugee teens, in Istanbul and Reyhanli, Turkey, which take on new innovative approaches to refugee education and learning. At Karam House, hundreds of Syrian refugee teens learn through access to cutting-edge technology (maker spaces, internet, computers), expert mentorship, and a sophisticated studio design-based curriculum to build their ideas and inspire their community. Responsibilities:

  • Take direction and collaborate with the communications team lead in photo documenting day-to-day activities (workshops – initiatives – campaigns – etc) inside and outside Karam House.
  • Scheduling and posting daily content to our social media pages.
  • Edit photos to suit Karam House branding.
  • Upload content to the organization’s cloud drive on a daily basis.
  • Work closely with the communications team in developing integrated content calendars.
  • Collaborate with other divisions in identifying new content opportunities that increase engagement.
  • Develop internal and external communications and marketing strategies, and help the brand gain exposure in local and international media.
  • Build and manage the organization’s social media profile and presence, and other platforms as needed.
  • Conduct interviews with community members from different programs.
  • Keep up to date on the latest media trends.

 

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Professional experience of at least one year working in social media marketing and content creation.
  • Professional experience of at least one year working with cameras and photography equipment.
  • Familiarity with lighting and studio setups and equipment.
  • Able to use photo editing software (Photoshop, Lightroom) and have some video editing knowledge.
  • In-depth knowledge and an up-to-date understanding of core social media platforms and how they are used to tell stories and promote services.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, both externally to our social audiences and internally across the organization.
  • Excellent eye for content, basic editing, and photo skills.
  • Can speak Arabic and Turkish fluently to share content and engage with our audience.
